At the Forefront
Providence Holy Cross Neurosciences Institute is a destination for advanced neurological care
Self-awareness. Mobility. Independence. Determining and directing your own course. These are indispensable elements for full quality of life. When the brain is compromised, many, if not all, of these things are lost.
The Providence Holy Cross Neurosciences Institute was created to protect and restore these essential components of our individuality. Today, our Neurosciences Institute is a leader in
providing nationally recognized care for those suffering from a host of chronic and acute neurological conditions. Thanks to our generous donors, Providence Holy Cross is a destination for
the latest innovations in care.
Best-in-class stroke care
In January, Providence Holy Cross was certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by DNV GL – Healthcare, the international gold standard in recognizing the highest level of
treatment for complex stroke cases. LA County emergency medical services has long recognized our stroke program as a comprehensive stroke center and a destination for ambulances that bypass other hospitals to reach this highest level of care.
We’re one of the leading regional providers of thrombectomies, a minimally invasive procedure performed by neuro-interventionalists to remove potentially deadly blood clots from the brain. This groundbreaking treatment allows many patients suffering severe strokes to go home within days, well on the way to full recovery.
“Our stroke team is a leader in providing complex interventional care and has worked hard to earn this designation,” said Bernard Klein, M.D., Providence Holy Cross chief executive. “From arrival in the emergency department to evaluation and quick intervention to rehabilitation as needed, we often see our most serious stroke patients leave the hospital in excellent condition just days after a stroke.”
Looking ahead
The leaders of Providence Holy Cross Neurosciences Institute are working to bring the latest breakthroughs to our community to improve outcomes and benefit patients. As a result, Providence Holy Cross is home to one of the nation’s busiest neurosurgical programs. The next planned donor-supported acquisition is advanced imaging technology called a biplane, which provides accurate images from two points of view.
“We have a solid foundation in place for creating a world-class Neurosciences Institute that would serve our expanding community and enhance our status as a destination for outstanding care,” says Dr. Klein. “Patients don’t have to leave the Valley to access advanced treatments. Much has been done, but given the demand, much more is needed to achieve our vision. Our growing team, including our community and philanthropic partners, will keep us on the leading edge.”
