Lives are being changed forever

Supporting the Heroes of Today

Retired clinical operations director and chief nursing officer for Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, Linda Coale, RN, is intimately familiar with the rewards and challenges of nursing. As the hospital’s top nursing executive, Linda joined the Holy Cross Foundation Board, where she became aware of the crucial role of philanthropy in supporting Providence Holy Cross. Linda knew she would find a way to give back. “I’d spent my entire professional career with the Providence health system, and I wanted to leave a legacy,” she shares.

A Gift With Heart

May 1, 1984, was a life-changing day for the Sapper family. It was the day Michele Sapper, then a junior in college, was on her way back to her dorm at Cal State Northridge when she was hit head-on by a one-ton pickup truck. The drunk driver never put on his brakes. It was also the day that Providence Holy Cross Medical Center opened as a trauma center. Michele would become the hospital’s first successful trauma patient. But her road to recovery from the horrific accident was far from easy.

A Survivor's Story

It’s been nearly two years since a 16-year-old student, armed with a .45 caliber semiautomatic handgun, entered the campus of Saugus High School. He shot five students, killing two, before turning the gun on himself. On November 14, 2019, Mia Tretta was a freshman at Saugus in Santa Clarita. It was a day like any other, with friends hanging out in the quad discussing an upcoming Spanish test and the next day’s school dance. “Then, suddenly, there were bangs and I was on the ground,” Mia recalls.

A family legacy of giving

Al Ghirardelli recognized the need for a quality hospital in the northeast San Fernando Valley. He not only led an initiative to get the hospital built, last year his family made a generous $700,000 donation.
